So / Therefore In Korean - 그래서

In this lesson, you will learn about 그래서. In a previous lesson, we covered 그리고 and ~고 and how these words mean ‘and’ or ‘and then’ and can be used to link two sentences or 2 clauses in the same sentence. 그래서 means ‘so’ or ‘therefore’ in Korean and is also used to link two sentences together.

그래서 Meaning

그래서 means ‘so’ or ‘therefore’ in Korean. It is used to connect two sentences when the preceding sentence is the reason or cause of the following sentence. Let’s look at an example.

오늘 날씨가 더워요. = Today, the weather is hot.
해수욕장에 가고 싶어요. = I want to go to the beach.
오늘 날씨가 더워요. 그래서 해수욕장에 가고 싶어요. = Today, the weather is hot. So, I want to go to the beach.

As you can see in this example, the two sentences are linked together with 그래서. By linking the sentences with 그래서, you are showing that the preceding sentence is the reason or cause of the second sentence. So in this example, the reason the speaker wants to go to the beach is that the weather is hot.
